Meeting called to order at 6:30 by Craig Mason.

Officers present:
          Craig Mason President
          David Higa Vice President/President Elect
          Jim Orrick Secretary
          David Marchant Treasurer

Committee members present:
          Program David Higa and Bob Ueki
          Challenge Herb Kaneko and Stewart Chow

Announcements:

Those interested in helping complete the bowl that was started at Uwe Dost's house last year, meet at Uwe's February 3, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Minutes of November meeting read and accepted.

Treasurer's report read with approximately $138 in treasury.

Christmas ornament sale made $130 for the club, which will be deposited into treasury upon receipt of check from Island Treasures.

San Diego turning club invited anyone to a seminar they are putting on. Contact Craig for details.

Members voted on having a guest turner, Jack deVos of Australia do a program at our May 16 meeting. Craig Mason will finalize arrangements with him.

Elections were held for year 2001 new officers. The following were voted into the respective positions:
          Vice President, Herb Kaneko
          Secretary, Stewart Chow
          Treasurer, David Marchant (incumbent)

David Higa will assume duties of President at the club's next meeting.

Challenge ~ 4'' x 4''
  1st Craig Mason footed natural edge ironwood bowl
  2nd Tom Young camphor burl bowl
  3rd David Higa opiuma bowl
       

There were eight entries at this challenge with each member describing how they did their piece.

For those members that entered the 4'' x 4'' challenge and did not have a chance to pay the $5.00 entry fee, please remind yourself to pay David Marchant (Treasurer) at the next meeting. The $5.00 entry fee is used to defer cost of prizes. At present, the challenge committee spends approximately $60.00 on prizes. $30 for 1st Place, $20 for 2nd Place, and $10 for 3rd Place.

The challenge for the March 14 meeting will be a turned object with maximum diameter of 10 inches and must use at least two different types of wood. (Don't forget if you enter to pay your entry fee).

Program -- Ed Potter gave an excellent demonstration on the use of the McNaughton
Center Saver, Oneway boring bar, and the Stewart arm brace with McNaughton hollowing tools. (Bob Ueki helped with this demo). Mahalo to Ed and Bob. Good job!
